The birth of the VW Type II (Type I being the Beetle) arose after World War II when the British found themselves running the VW factory in Wolfsburg, Germany. Ben Pon, a Dutch VW importer, saw the motorised trolleys built using stripped down Beetle chassis and running gear taking parts around the huge factory in 1947. He sketched a design based on a Beetle based van which in fact looked like a box on wheels, his idea took off a year later when he became chief executive of Volkswagen and the VW van was launched in 49 at the Geneva Motor Show. 

 The first generation of Volkswagen buses were built from 1949 to 1967, and are known as split-window buses or 'splitties' such as Casper. Buses built after 1967 such as our  'Edna' and our Hearse are known as the 'bay window models'. After 1979 more modern versions were developed and these became known as 'wedges'. For the original

type II lovers the charm was lost and the cosy camper had become a bungalow on wheels! 50 years on, early VW buses are as popular as ever, and they are enjoying a revival among the surfing community, and are the must haves amongst the V Dub community and have now become the way forward in Wedding Transport!

This is 'Casper the friendly camper'.  Casper is right hand drive and can cater for up to 6 (average size) people.  He is actually a passenger bus rather than a camper van!

'Casper' has been restored and has received a coat of candy white paint to compliment and match our fleet of VW's.

IMPORTANT INFORMATION: Casper is limited to a maximum 65 mile radius including all events* from our base here in the Midlands as he is 47 years old and top speed is about 56 MPH! It could take days to get to you! (*max one and a half hours driving time as calculated by auto route) Maximum 25 onward miles from first collection. Casper is limited to local weddings only from November to April.

If there are any very steep hills on your route please advise us as Casper can not climb steep hills loaded with passengers, he only has a 1600 engine bless him! We may need to find an alternative route.

17th May 2008 and Casper is wowing the crowds! Steven had booked Casper as a suprise for Mel.

Sorry Casper is not available for prom hire or special occasions hire, you need to be private hire licensed to do that and he's to old!

Casper has a brand new interior in light beige and his 21 windows to include 8 windows in the roof make him a very bright and airy little chap. He has all the usual Beetle Drive trimmings inside to include flowers Champagne area and some great tunes through his awesome speakers!

Casper has spent his life overseas in Thailand as a passenger bus and has been stored there for many years awaiting a better life! Hopefully we have put a smile on his little face and in turn he will put a smile on the faces of his brides and grooms for years to come.

We are often asked to use our larger cars / buses to shuttle guests from Church to reception etc. where possible we may provide two runs from church/ ceremony if the distance is very local otherwise I'm sorry we can not provide this type of hire. Wedding hire is for the immediate wedding party (grooms party, bridal party and parents) otherwise you will require a licensed taxi service. When asking for more than one trip to church / reception please remember the time it will take the car to do this as you will need to add the return journey time, example if it is 15 minutes to the church and you require 2 trips the first party of passengers must leave around an hour prior to the ceremony time to allow for traffic and getting into and out of the car and photo's etc. Where a registrar is taking the service you must allow arrival 15 minutes prior to the ceremony time. If you are late they are entitled to refuse to marry you! Wedding car hire is only available on the day of the actual wedding otherwise you the hire becomes private hire for which you have to be a licensed (taxi) vehicle. There is provision of 1 full 3 point seat belt suitable for a full child seat (NOT REAR FACING*) and 1 lap belt on the forward facing rear seats suitable for a booster seat and an aluminium side step to help you get in.

*please be aware that the rear seat and seat belt is not suitable to fit a rear facing baby seat. Forward facing and booster seats are fine.

Casper is only available for wedding and Funeral hire and short term TV and film hire. I am sorry he is not available for any special occasions hire including proms,  Birthdays airport trips etc. due to the new legistation of Jan 08.

Casper may not be suitable for bad weather, including high winds, extremely heavy rain, snow, fog etc. if you are booking during the winter months we will keep a limousine on standby if it is not safe for Casper to travel. You will be informed of this if we don't consider it safe to use him.
